The campsites in Kristiansand are located in the south of Norway. Kristiansand is known to many campers because they leave or arrive here by ferry. Because with the Color Line's SuperSpeed 1 it takes only 3 hours and 15 minutes to and from Hirtshals in the north of Denmark. And with the Fjord FSTR of the Fjord Line even 2 hours and 15 minutes. You can read more about it on this page. But Kristiansand has so much more to offer. An extra night at a campsite in Kristiansand is therefore certainly not a bad idea. Read more
In the center of Kristiansand – the largest city in southern Norway – you will find a pleasant shopping street (Markens Gate) with various shops, restaurants, pubs and cozy terraces. In addition, the Fiskebrygga - right on the sea - is a popular destination in the city. Here you will find various fish shops, (fish) restaurants and pubs. In the center you will also find the impressive Kristiansand Domkirke:
This beautiful cathedral and the Vest Agder Museum (open-air museum) are definitely worth a visit. Dyreparken Kristiansand is highly recommended for families with children. This amusement park and also the largest zoo in Norway can be found just outside the city.
There are currently 2 shipping companies sailing between Hirtshals and Kristiansand: the Color Line and the Fjord Line. The Color Line has 1 ship on this route: the SuperSpeed1. This takes 3 hours and 15 minutes. The Fjord FSTR catamaran from the Fjord Line:
is a lot faster. This takes only 2 hours and 15 minutes. Because the catamaran sails “over” the waves, instead of “through them”, you can suffer from seasickness on the Fjord FSTR in bad weather. That is also one of the reasons why the ship only sails in the summer. The Fjord Line also has 2 ships that sail between Kristiansand and Hirtshals: the MS Bergensfjord and the MS Stavangerfjord. These ferries also operate in winter and take 4 hours. So plenty of choice.
From Kristiansand you can choose from 3 directions:
1. Westwards via the E39 to, for example, Stavanger, Haugesund and Bergen. This route is recommended if you want to visit the Prekestolen, for example. Because it is close to Stavanger.
2. Head east via the E18 through the beautiful Sorlandet with beautiful coastal towns such as Lillesand, Grimstad, Arendal and Risor.
3. Northwards via the “9” to Evje and Haukeligrend. This route is popular with many campers in Norway because it is the shortest route to the beautiful fjords of Norway, such as the Hardangerfjord, the Sognefjord and of course the Geirangerfjord.
Just a fifteen-minute drive from the port of Kristiansand you will find Kristiansand Feriesenter: one of the few 5-star campsites in Norway. A beautiful campsite with many facilities, nice sandy beaches and located in a beautiful location, right on the sea:
Just outside Kristiansand in Hamresanden you will find Hamre Familiecamping. This campsite is also about a fifteen-minute drive from the port of Kristiansand. Hamre Familiecamping is also located directly on the sea and has excellent sanitary facilities and a large modern playground. At the campsite you will find a beautiful sandy beach:
If you choose the eastern direction, Skottevik Feriesenter is recommended. This campsite is also located directly on the sea. The distance to and from Kristiansand is only 24km. There are various accommodations for rent at Skottevik Feriesenter and the campsite has a beautiful swimming pool:
If you go north, many campers choose Kilefjorden Camping. This campsite is run by young, enthusiastic owners. There are various cabins for rent at Kilefjorden Camping. The campsite is located directly on the Otra river:
