PlusCamp Saltstraumen Camping in Knapplund near Bodo in the Nordland region
This spacious campsite with both paved and grassy pitches and a wide variety of cabins is located in a protected natural area. Almost at the end of the beautiful Kystriksveien (RV17) near Bodo where you can take the ferry to the Lofoten. Note: when good weather is predicted, everyone wants to go directly to the Lofoten. At the ferry it is then pretty busy. Advice: leave on time (approx. 3 hours in advance) to the port or book the ferry in advance (they can help you with this at the reception).
At PlusCamp Saltstraumen Camping
There are quite a few paved pitches on the campsite. This is not popular with everyone, but often just needed because of the weather. "Normal" grass pitches are also available. You will also find various types of cabins. The campsite has good sanitary facilities, a playground and free WIFI. At 10km. distance you will find a golf course.
Diving and snorkeling in the Saltstraumen
The owner of PlusCamp Saltstraumen Camping is a big fan of diving and therefore he started a diving station at the campsite. Under supervision you can dive and snorkel in the Saltstraumen (of course only at ebbtide). The guide warns you in time when the flow starts.
Grind- and tidalstream Saltstraumen
Close to PlusCamp Saltstraumen Camping you will find the Saltstraumen, the largest and most powerful tidal current in the world. Every 6 hours 400 million m3 of seawater passes through a 150-meter-wide strait here. When the current is at its strongest, vortices with a size of 10 meters can arise. A tide chart is available at the campsite reception.
