Alta River Camping in Alta in the Finnmark region
Alta River Camping is a nice campsite on the Altaelva River. The sanitary is simple but well maintained. Both gravel and grassy pitches are available at the campsite and cabins, rooms and apartments can be rented. The WIFI on the campsite is for free. The campsite is open all year round and is frequently visited in the winter. Not only for winter sports but also to watch the Northern Lights.
Personal attention
Since 1968, the Finnish couple Sirpa and Heikki Haarala has run Alta River Camping. You will be warmly welcomed on arrival and also at the campsite there is a family atmosphere. Because the owners live on the campsite there is a lot of attention for the campers and the campsite itself.
At Alta River Camping
In addition to good sanitary facilities, Alta River Camping has a sauna and 2 nice grill houses. There is also a living room with TV, a small playground and large toy cars and children's bicycles. Bicycles can be rented and there are good walking and cycling routes in the immediate vicinity of the campsite. The campsite is located on the Altaelva River, one of the best salmon rivers in the world. Fish lovers will have a great time here.
Alta and Northern Lights Cathedral
Alta River Camping is approximately 5km. away from the center of Alta. Alta - also called "the city of the Northern Lights" offers a nice center as well as a special church: the Northern Lights Cathedral. This modern church, known for its special "spiral" shape, is partly built from wood and partly from concrete and is covered with titanium plates. A visit to the rock drawings of Hjemmeluft is also recommended.
Last stop for the North Cape
Many campers choose Alta River Camping as the last stop before visiting the North Cape. Because from Alta it is still about 3.5 hours away. Moreover, the city of Alta offers many shops, supermarkets and gas stations. The location of Alta River Camping - not on the busy E6, but just outside the town of Alta on the E45 towards Kautokeino (Norwegian Lapland), makes the campsite very popular with campers.
